Key Background
Renault is ready to introduce a new seven-seat SUV to its Duster family, which has been spotted testing in Brazil. The new car, which goes by the codename “Boreal,” is essentially a rebadged version of the Dacia Bigster and marks Renault’s foray into the three-row SUV market. It will reportedly launch officially in Brazil in mid-2025 and will make its way to Indian shores sometime next fiscal year.
The Boreal is a posh car that will appeal to mid-size SUV buyers seeking space, comfort, and technology. It features a dramatic appearance with a stretched body, long rear overhang, and boxy but muscular stance. Design highlight features comprise Renault’s iconic Y-shaped LED DRLs, new front grille, new rear look, and robust skid plates. It features a modern appearance with flush door handles and a sloping roofline.
Inside the cabin, Renault is focusing on technology and comfort. Spied pics and leaked details affirm dual 10-inch screens for infotainment and a digital pack of gauges. Ventilated seats, dual-zone climate control, wireless charging, a power tailgate, and a panoramic roof could be the other features. ADAS treats like emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keep assist can also be part of the pack.
Under the bonnet of the Brazilian market model, there is a 1.6-litre hybrid powerplant that produces an estimated 157 bhp and 170 Nm of torque. In other markets such as India, Renault would probably provide other powertrains such as a 1.2-litre mild-hybrid or 1.3-litre turbo petrol. No diesel powertrains would be present. An electronics-driven AWD system along with some terrain modes will also be there.
In India, Boreal will compete with the best-selling three-row SUVs such as Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV700, Hyundai Alcazar, and MG Hector Plus. Apart from this, Renault is also going to launch a five-seater version of the Duster, with an attempt to bring back its high customer base and regain its position in the competitive SUV segment.
