Key Background

As a commemorative of politic politeness, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi was bestowed with Brazil’s loftiest mercenary award, the Grand Collar of the National Order of the Southern Cross, in recognition of his recent sanctioned visit to South America. The award was bestowed upon PM Modi by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, presenting the award to PM Modi as a commemorative of appreciation for his trials towards fortifying bilateral relations and creating strategic alliances between India and Brazil.

Appreciation, PM Modi referred to it as “a moment of enormous pride and emotion” for Indians. The pride is also experienced in the affection and pouring adoration with which Brazil is welcoming their country and India’s growing influence in the world outside, he stated. The Indian leader also valued the age-old friendship between the two countries, ranging from trade, defense, environment, to technology.

Grand Collar of the Southern Cross is the nation’s top mercenary honor and was preliminarily awarded to outstanding foreign leaders. With this, PM Modi is part of a select group of statesmen worldwide who are recognized for their leadership and global tactfulness. The new Brazilian honor comes after citations by further than two dozen nations including Egypt, France, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

This honour also comes at a time when Brazil is preparing to host the forthcoming BRICS Summit, emphasizing the significance of India’s part in shaping international cooperation. Judges view this gesture as a reaffirmation of Brazil’s commitment to strategic alignment with India, especially on platforms like BRICS, G20, and the United Nations. It also further cements PM Modi’s transnational elevation and highlights India’s growing politic influence in the Global South.
